are some of the best hockey instructors available. Each instructor has
specific talents which they have perfected over many years of experience.
All our instructors are still involved in hockey in some way which enables
them to develop the programs needed to keep our students in top form and
teach them the skills that are essential to their game. Check out our

Wayne Gagne
Hockey Profile: During his playing career he was a Two-time
All American and Hobey Baker Runner-Up while playing at Western
Michigan University. As an offensive defenceman (87), he still has
8 NCAA records to his name. Following his senior year, Wayne skated
with the Canadian Olympic Team under the guidance of Dave King,
and then went on to sign with the Montreal Canadiens. He played
in the Elite leagues in Switzerland, Holland, and Denmark. Upon
finishing his playing career he coached Jr.A hockey in Canada for
2 years.

Instructor Profile: Wayne Gagne brings to Draft Choice
a wide variety of professional skills. Being a Physical Education
teacher and a former N.H.L. and European Professional player, Wayne
has acquired and developed an excellent approach for teaching today's
youth. His teaching and motivational methods, as well as his ability
to demonstrate and model proper techniques have been the key to
his success as a Head Instructor at Draft Choice.
Wayne has been instructing at various hockey schools in North America
and Europe for the past 15 years. He has been able to effectively
combine many of his own experiences along with the teachings of
Dr. Yasha Smushkin's European Powerskating and Skills techniques
to build a resourceful teaching background.
Recently Wayne has earned his Hockey Trainers Certificate, updated
his First Aid Certificate and Participated in the Canadian Child
Abuse Prevention Program. Wayne just finished coaching his Atom
AA Brampton Canadettes team to the League Championship and Provincial
Gold Medal. This year he is coaching the Duffield Devils 97 team
in the North York League.
In the year 2001 Wayne was voted to the Western Michigan University
Hall of Fame and in the year 2000 he was voted to the 1st team
CCHA All 80’s Decade Team along with Nelson Emerson, George
McPhee, Kip Miller and Rob Blake.
Wayne was voted to the CCHA All Century Team in 2000.

Joey Pedulla
Hockey Profile: A former European Pro player in Germany,
Joey was one of the top players on the team. He holds the record
for the fastest three goals in a single game, 5 min 23 seconds.
Joey played his Jr. A career for the Brampton Capitals O.H.A. He
still remains 3rd, in the Caps all time scoring. A true leader of
the team Joey was the Assistant Captain, as well as, the Captain.
During his final year, Joey received all the major Awards, Central
Canadian Championship M.V.P., All-Star Center, and Top Points Awards.
He is a heads up player that is known for being able to see the
whole ice surface. With this ability, and his breakaway speed he
is able to capitalize on goal scoring opportunities.

Instructor Profile: Joey is one of the head instructor's
at Draft Choice Hockey, His teaching ability is incredible, he knows
how to make the students understand. A Master Motivator, the students
enjoy their time with Joey. He is a certified coach under the N.C.C.P.,
a certified trainer under the H.T.C.P. as well as completed the
new abuse and harassment clinic which is mandatory for all involved
in Ontario minor hockey effective 2001. At the young age of 13 Joey
started working as a demonstrator for Dr.Yasha Smushkin Hockey Clinic.
He spent 8 yrs studying under Smushkin's tutelage. He then went
on to work for Hockey Tech International where he remained for 7
yrs.
Joey has a very high level of skill, and through all of his years
of development he has created some of his own techniques that are
more up to date and in tune with today's style of hockey. This has
earned him a D.C.H. power skating head instructor certification.
In only his third year with Draft Choice Hockey Programs.

Andrew
Nariniak
Currently Andrew is playing hockey at Niagara “Purple Eagles”
University on a hockey scholarship. Draft Choice has instructed
him since the age of 12. At that time he was playing AA rep hockey
in the Toronto area. He then moved on to the Toronto Young Nats
AAA organization. He then played with the Aurora Magna Tigers
of the Provincial Junior "A" league later played Junior
A for Leamington in the Western Ontario Jr. “A” League
and received a scholarship to Niagara.
Andrew was a student, a demonstrator, and now has moved on to
become a head instructor for DCH for the past 3 summers. He is
an intense teacher and brings the most out of his students. Although
he is loud and very intimidating with his six foot five frame
the students all enjoy his sense of humour and unpredictability
on the ice. Andrew runs programs for DCH in the U.S. and in the
Toronto areas.

Peter
Zavodny
Hockey Profile: Peter has been teaching high school in
Korea for the past two winters and returns to run Draft Choice
programs in the summers. He is pursuing a teaching career in the
Toronto area. A 6-1, 200 lbs, right handed defenseman, who graduated
from Princeton University in the NCAA. Peter helped the Princeton
Tiger's Win the Ivy League Champions 1999. ECAC champions/ NCAA/
1998. He graduated from St. Michael's College with honours. Zavodny
played his Jr. “A” hockey with the St. Michaels Buzzers
and the Caledon Canadians where he was coached by Wayne Gagne
of DCH, who were finalists in the MJHL (Metro Junior Hockey League).
In 1995, Peter was drafted to the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL.

Instructor Profile: Peter “XENA”
Zavodny as the students know him has worked with DCH for the past
6 years and was a student for 4 years. Peter is a very thorough
instructor who provides step-by-step technique breakdowns as well
as demonstrates all skills taught. He works well with our younger
students, and has the ability to adapt his teaching methods in
ways that allow all our students to understand and achieve success
with the various “skills.” Peter brings the technical
part of hockey from the NCAA, to the students of Draft Choice
Hockey. He has his level one from the N.C.C.P. (National Coaching
Certification Program) as of now.

Terry
Richardson
Hockey Profile: Terry is the Head Coach/General Manager
of the Brampton Thunder. The Thunder are members of the N.W.H.L.,
which is the highest level of female hockey in the world. Terry
has coached the Thunder for the past 2 seasons where they have
captured the Provincial Bronze Medal, the Provincial Silver Medal,
the Central Canadian Championship and also appeared in the N.W.H.L.
Western Division Finals the past 2 seasons. From 1992 to 1995
Terry was an Assistant Coach with the Beatrice Aeros of the N.W.H.L.
where they captured the National Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals
at the Esso Women’s Nationals. Terry has coached several National
Team Players from Canada, United States and Finland. Terry is
a former O.H.A. Junior player.
Instructor Profile: Terry’s coaching experience with the
elite level players will be his key to success with Draft Choice.
He is able to communicate well with all ages and he knows what
it takes to get the players to the highest level they wish to
achieve. Terry is highly motivated and his love and passion for
the game of hockey comes across to all the players he will instruct.
Terry has instructed at many camps in Ontario such as Breakaway,
Total Hockey, and Superior Blades.

Steve Murphy
Steve currently is playing in his third year with the University
of Toronto Blues. Steve played with the Caledon Canadians in the
MJHL (Metro Junior Hockey League) before moving to University
and was a huge contributor to helping Sheldon Keefe of the Tampa
Bay Lightning score more than 50 goals in 50 games. He is pursuing
his Bachelor of Education and will be teaching high school in
the Toronto area.
Steve “Mad Dog” Murphy as he known
by the students is very enthusiastic when teaching the various
skills to the students. His teaching strengths are in the areas
of deking and shifting along with tight parallel bar “power
turns.” We would never ask Mad Dog to demo the springboard
because you just never know with him….he could hit his head
on the ceiling of the rink. Steve is entering his sixth year as
an instructor with Draft Choice and we are very fortunate to have
him as part of our staff.

Scott Jenkins
Scott played his minor hockey in North Bay where he played
with the North Bay Centennials of the O.H.L. He then moved on
to play professional hockey in the now called United League
formerly the colonial league for the Chatham Wheels. Scott has
been a dedicated DCH instructor for the past 6 years. Scott
brings serious tone to the sessions always making sure the students
are focused and are committed to learning the skills being taught.
Scott is very knowledgeable with the Draft Choice Hockey teaching
system and often will run sessions concentrating on Body contact
and puck protection.

Dave
Gurmann
Hockey Profile: A former Jr. A player with the Streetsville
Derbys, Dave was known for his tough play and ability to put
the puck in the net. Year after year he was always one of the
top point getters on his team.

Instructor Profile: Dave is entering his second season
at Draft Choice Hockey. He signed on last year after working
for another hockey school in the Toronto area. Dave is currently
teaching primary school in Brampton for the Peel Board of Education.
With his teaching and hockey background he is able to teach
new skills and reinforce others in an enjoyable and effective
manner.

Paul
Woods
Hockey Profile: Paul played one year of O.H.A. Jr.A
with Royal York. Paul then moved on to play four seasons at
the University of Toronto. A defensive defenceman, Paul was
known for his penalty killing abilities and his sound, "head's
up" play.
Instructor Profile: Paul began with Draft Choice in
the Fall of '99, after spending 9 years at the Brendan Shanahan
Hockey School, 4 years as a head instructor. A U.of T. Physical
& Health Ed. Grad, Paul has been a teacher for 3 years, and
has coached a variety of sports. Paul also holds certification
under the N.C.C.P. (level I) and Standard First Aid.

Ryan Crane
Currently Ryan is playing for Augusta in the East Coast Hockey
League. Last year Ryan graduated form Western Michigan University
and was voted top defenseman for his team as a senior. Before
earning a scholarship to WMU Ryan was coached by Wayne Gagne
while playing Junior A for the Caledon Canadians organization.
Ryan has been instructing for Draft Choice for the past 5 years.
He is an excellent demonstrator with a very powerful stride.
Ryan has used his DCH skills to further his playing level to
pro. Ryan has been a great addition to the DCH staff.

Mike
Ross
Mike has been with the DCH Instructors since he was nine years
old. He has grown from a house league player to AAA rep and
finally in to a junior level player.
Mike played his minor hockey in the Wexford Raiders organization.
He then moved on to play for Durham of the Provincial Jr. A
hockey league. Mike has been a demonstrator for 5 years and
has mastered many of the skills taught at DCH. He currently
runs many of the team development sessions during the winters
and summer camps. Mike is always a reliable and responsible
instructor and very polite and honest when interacting with
all the students and parents.

Timmy
Nussbaum
Hockey Profile: Timmy has been playing for the Washington
Little Capitals for the last five seasons. This last season
he was the only bantam aged player to be selected for the midget
team. He started on the first line and anchored the power play.
Two seasons ago, his bantam team won the National Silver Stick
Tournament in Port Huron, Michigan.
As a peewee minor he was named a captain and an alternate captain
as a peewee major. For the past two summers he has played on
the USA hockey select team. This program is designed to scout
players for the National Under 17 Team. He was also selected
for the sophomore all-star team to compete in the Hockey Night
In Boston Tournament. He is a big, strong, fast, powerful player.
This combination of size, speed, and great vision on the ice
allows him to dominate, even when playing with and against players
3 years older then him.

Instructor Profile: Timmy will be returning for his
third year at Draft Choice Hockey and second as a Junior instructor.
He has spent much of the past two summers working at local camps.
He loves the game of ice hockey and loves to teach and motivate
to younger kids that want to win and enjoy playing. He is also
a certified USA Hockey Level 1 referee.

Shane
G. Sauer
Hockey Profile: Shane played defense for 3 years with
the Washington Junior Capitals, and was Alternate Captain the
last year. He played on the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League
All-Star team the last year. He also played for his high school
team for four years, was Alternate Captain for two years and
Captain and Most Valuable Player his senior year. He made the
Maryland Scholastic Hockey League State Elite All-Star team
all four years in high school, made the Washington Post All-Met
Ice Hockey Team for the last two years and also played for Team
Southeast in the Chicago Showcase the last two years. This year,
as a freshman, he made the varsity team as a defenseman for
Leigh University where he is frequently on the starting line.
Shane is an offensive defenseman with superb skating skills
and speed.
Instructor Profile: Shane has been a Instructor for
Draft Choice Hockey for Three years and was a Volunteer Instructor
for the Bantam major team of the Washington Little Capitals
in 1997. He was also instrumental in developing the play book
for his high school team.

Alex
Bronson
Hockey Profile: Alex is currently a Bantam Major, playing
with the Washington Little Capitals Organization, he is one
of the leaders on the team. Last season, Alex finished third
in scoring. Prior to playing for the Little Capitals, Alex played
for the Reston Raiders Organization, where as an assistant captain,
he was one of the leading scorers over consecutive seasons.
Alex as a member of the Washington Little Capitals 1985 Quebec
Team, won the championship in the International B Division of
the Championnats Mondiaux de Hockey Pee Wee Quebec. As leader
and a hockey player, he demonstrates excellent passing, skating,
and scoring skills.
Instructor Profile: As a junior instructor at Draft
Choice Hockey, with his ability and understanding of the drills
and concepts, Alex helps to demonstrate and teach the skills
required to improve the participants overall hockey knowledge
and understanding.
Team Profile:The Washington Little Capitals is a youth
ice hockey organization involving players predominantly from
the mid-Atlantic/Chesapeake Bay/Tidewater region. Our team competes
at the Tier I level, which is the highest level of play at the
amateur ranking. We are registered with USA Hockey SouthEast
region and compete in the Atlantic Hockey League against teams
in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. We also play tournaments
throughout northeastern US and Canada. Bantam Major classification
includes players born July 1,1984 to June 30, 1985. This year,
Alex's team has been sponsored by Mission Hockey and will represent
the Southeast District in the USA Hockey Nationals.

Adam
Stanley
Adam played his junior hockey in the Provincial Junior "A"
league in the Toronto area and is currently an elementary teacher
with the Peel board of Education. He brings a loud voice and
a very enthusiastic attitude to the sessions that enable him
to get the best out of the students. Adam is very specific with
his instructions when teaching the various skills so the students
know exactly what is expected from them. There are no discipline
problems when the players are working in his zone. He is a great
DCH addition.

Derek
Montgomery
Derek is from Brampton, Ontario just north of Toronto. He played
his minor hockey in the Brampton Battalion Organization. He
played high school hockey for Notre Dame in Brampton where he
was the MVP of the team and led them to the Canadian high school
championship in Halifax. From here Derek played with the Bramalea
Blues in the Provincial Jr. “A” league around Toronto.
Currently he is enrolled at York University.
Derek has been with DCH for 3 years now. He usually teaches
in our winter specialty programs as well as our Pay as you go
Saturday sessions. Derek is very intense when on the ice with
the players and pushes the students beyond their comfort zones.

Kelly
Reed
Hockey
Profile: A 6'0", 185 lbs. left handed defenceman, with a
quick head. A great quarterback on the power play, he is the
defenceman that every team wants. Kelly was a product of the
O.H.L. before he was drafted to the London Knights where he
played for four years. Throughout these four years he became
an elite defenceman. He now plays in the European circuit. As
a European pro he has played in Germany, Austria, and is currently
playing in England (Premier Division Great Britain). Last year
he received the top player award for the league.

Instructor
Profile: Kelly's high skill level is the key to his teaching
ability not only can he tell the students what they are doing
wrong, but he can correct them by way of demonstration. He knows
what it takes to get to the next level in the game of hockey,
and with the best interests of the kids he prepares them for
it. As one of Draft Choice's finest Kelly's playing style is
a good one to model.
