The goal of the classes are
to allow a player to review and sharpen their skills throughout
the year so in game situations the players are able to react
quicker both mentally and physically so they have greater
success with and without the puck.
Session ONE 12:30pm – 1:30pm
The first hour of our program will continue to focus on
superior skating techniques & puckhandling skills. Each
week we focus on the skills for defence & forwards.
You do not have to play one position or the other to attend
this session. The skills instruction provided is taught
so that forwards & defence are able to use them successfully
in game situations. This hour will involve skating with
and without pucks and will be catered to the best players
on the ice. Remember in a game a player might touch the
puck 10 times if they know how to read the play and/or have
superior skills. In some of our sessions a player will touch
the puck more than a 1000
times while improving their skating skills
as well.
Session TWO 1:30 – 2:30pm
Skills to Concepts Teaching
Draft Choice will focus the second hour on teaching the skills taught
the first hour using game situations as the main focus.
Zones with shooting nets will be set up similar to our summer
programs. Students will be given an opportunity to use the
skills to gain a greater understanding of how to use them
in a game successfully. These zones will include a defensive
zone, offensive zone, a competitive zone & a speed zone.
Students will have a chance to work on shooting, passing,
puck protection and various competitions.
Goalies – Because some zones will involve shooting, goalies are
invited to attend these sessions to keep their quick reflexes and game
play sharp. Although there will be no goalie instructor on the ice the
instructors will keep them honest in playing their position properly. The
fee for goalies is $10 for the hour. If you know of any goalies who may
be interested in keeping in shape and facing a variety of shots &
dekes for these sessions please ask them to email Wayne at wgagne@draftchoice.com to
arrange which sessions they can attend.
Remember:
School comes first …then hockey!
